Brian Woods

Brian Woods, MD is a Founding Partner at WAVE Ventures, where he leads investments in life sciences and healthcare. He has a diverse background spanning military service, medical practice management, nonprofit creation, and various facets of the music and entertainment industries.  Dr. Woods has been involved in starting and leading over 2 dozen businesses ranging in Enterprise Value from $1M to > $400M and brings this multifaceted perspective to his investment approach.  

Previously, Dr. Woods led NorthStar Anesthesia, scaling anesthesiology services across 243 hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers nationwide, increasing annual revenue from $14M to $1.5B. NorthStar was acquired by TPG Growth and later exited to Cranemere Capital.

Beyond healthcare, Dr. Woods has achieved success with several startups leveraging SaaS and cloud-based technologies. He also has a storied career in the music industry, managing and guiding several international touring acts.

Dr. Woods serves on numerous boards, including as Technical Systems Advisor to the John Maxwell Leadership Foundation, an organization active in six sovereign nations, equipping and teaching leadership core values to better those societies. He is passionate about Christian service and leadership and has been active in international orphan care and medical missions for over two decades.  

Dr. Woods earned his BS from Abilene Christian University, his MD from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and completed his anesthesiology residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Additionally, he served for seven years in the United States Air Force as Chief of Aerospace Medicine and Flight Surgeon for the 28th Bomb Squadron, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal.
